For the 2018 edition of Mother's Day, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, First Lady of Côte d'Ivoire celebrated the wives of the military, gendarmes and police of Côte d'Ivoire. The tribute ceremony to the wives of the members of these three (03) corps took place on Saturday, May 28, 2018, at the new Akouedo camp. It witnessed the presence of Hamed Bakayoko, Minister of State, Minister of Defense, Sidiki Diakité, Minister of Home Affairs and Security, Mrs. Mariatou Koné, Minister of Women, Child Protection and  Solidarity, Touré Sékou, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and the representatives of the great commandments. A total of 4,000 women attended the ceremony.

For this special event, the wife of the Head of state came to Akouedo her hands full of gifts. Thus, the patron of the event offered 4,000 loincloth. In addition, the wife of the Head of State offered in kind and in cash donations worth more than 222 million CFA francs. She also made available to the wives the FAFCI (the Support Fund for Women of Côte d’Ivoire) checks worth 400 million CFA francs distributed as follows : 200 million CFA francs to military spouses, 100 million CFA to the wives of the Gendarmes and 100 million CFA to the wives of police officers.

 

The Association of Military Wives of Côte d'Ivoire (AEMCI) in return offered loincloth to their godmother.

Recalling her status as a former military girl, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara emphasized the important role the military wives play. "(...) Indeed, you play a vital role alongside your husbands, maintaining  balance in the family, while they are defending their country and protecting our people. Because of you they are able to accomplish well their duty  on a daily basis, "she said.

"I would like to thank you and congratulate you for your commitment, as well as for all the sacrifices you make, for the benefit of our nation," she said. The First Lady recalled the meaning of her fight since 2010 for the empowerment of women through the Support Fund for Women of Côte d'Ivoire (FAFCI). Also, for Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, this fund made available to the military wives will enable them to launch and develop their income-generating activities.

  "I would like (...) to wish a very beautiful Mother's Day to all the mothers of Côte d'Ivoire. I wish that every mother will be happy, surrounded by her family and loved ones for this occasion, "she said.

The Minister of State, Minister of Defense Hamed Bakayoko has meanwhile, noted the special meaning of this ceremony. For him, this is the first time that a First Lady goes to one of the most legendary camps in the country to celebrate mother’s day with the women. He took this opportunity to thank her for her continued concern for the mothers and children of the country.

 

For Ms. Koné Mariatou, Minister of Women, Child Protection and Solidarity, Mother's Day is a moment of gratitude to the mother and the wife for taking care of their family on a daily basis. According to the latter, this edition of Mother's Day has a special meaning given the role played by military officer in to secure and protect the country. She ended by inviting all ivorians to social cohesion.

Brigadier General Kouamé N'Dri Julien, Chief of Staff of the Army thanked the First Lady for her support. Toure Tenin, Honorary President of the Association of Military Wives of Côte d'Ivoire (AEMCI) also recalled the commitment and actions of the First Lady for women and children. The ceremony ended with a parade of military, gendarmes and policemen spouses.
