Women of all social strata extended their best wishes for the new year to Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, First Lady of Côte d'Ivoire, during a ceremony on Tuesday, January 09, 2018 in the garden of the Presidential residence.

The ceremony witnessed the participation of Female members of government, presidents of institutions, female members of parliament, female members of the diplomatic corps, wives of Ministers and Ambassadors, female General Directors, Female entrepreneurs, female in armed and police forces and those in other fields of activity.

On behalf of families and women of Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs. Mariatou Koné, Minister of Women, Child Protection and Solidarity, has expressed her gratitude to Mrs. Dominique Ouattara for actions carried out throughout 2017 for the well-being of the people. "(...) On behalf of the women and families of Côte d'Ivoire, for this new year I am pleased to present you and your dear husband, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Alassane Ouattara and your loved ones a very good and happy new year, may this year be full of health and energy for you to continue to take and implement actions in line with the promotion of women, the protection of the child and the well-being of our population". Indeed the Minister for Women, Child Protection and Solidarity highlighted the many international and national meetings that enabled the First Lady to defend the causes of children and women. She also mentionned that the First Lady’s efforts have certainly contributed to reposition Côte d'Ivoire on the international stage. She indicated the 3rd edition of the "Hidden Hunger" International Congress in Stuttgart, Germany, where Mrs. Dominique Ouattara was invited as main speaker. In terms of the subregion cooperation, she cited the ECOWAS First Ladies Forum, which was held between 2 and 5 October 2017 in Niamey, Niger, to provide an answer for the eradication of obstetric fistula in West Africa and the Conference of First Ladies of West Africa and Sahel on Combating Violence, Trafficking, Exploitation and Child Labor held from 17 to 18 October 2017 in Abidjan.

Madame Farida Bouguetaïa,  Présidente de l’Association des Ambassadrices  s’est réjouie de l’opportunité de cette cérémonie. Au nom de son association, elle a traduit  son admiration pour le rôle déterminant que les femmes ivoiriennes jouent en tant que mère, en tant que citoyenne au service de leur patrie.

A son tour, La Première Dame,  Dominique Ouattara  a saisi l’opportunité de cette cérémonie pour présenter ses meilleurs vœux à toutes les femmes présentes et au-delà à toutes les femmes du pays. Elle a tenu à remercier chacune des femmes présentes pour le rôle déterminant qu’elle joue dans le développement du pays. «(…) Je voudrais profiter de cette occasion pour féliciter chacune d’entre vous en vos qualité respective (…)  pour le travail remarquable que vous réalisez, afin de contribuer à bâtir notre beau pays. Vous êtes des femmes volontaires, déterminées et dynamiques. Chacune d’entre vous joue un rôle primordial dans le développement de notre pays. Et vos fonctions respectives vous placent au centre des défis économiques, sociaux et politiques que doit relever la Côte d’Ivoire, afin de se hisser parmi les grandes puissances de ce monde », a-t-elle déclaré.  Madame Dominique Ouattara a  profité du cadre de cette cérémonie pour  lever un coin de voile sur les événements majeurs qui  vont marquer l’année 2018. En effet, elle a cité l’inauguration en mars prochain de l’Hôpital Mère-Enfant de Bingerville à la faveur des 20 ans de la Fondation Children Of Africa. Selon Madame Dominique Ouattara, ce nouvel établissement de santé permettra une meilleure prise en charge  des populations, particulièrement les femmes et les enfants.

 

 

Mrs. Farida Bouguetaïa, President of the Association of Ambassadors, welcomed the opportunity of this ceremony. On behalf of her association, she expressed her admiration for the vital role that Ivorian women play as mothers, as citizens serving their country.

In return, the First Lady, Dominique Ouattara seized the opportunity of this ceremony to express her best wishes to all the women present and all the women of the country. She thanked them for their decisive role in the development of the country. "(...) I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate each of you in your respective capacity (...) for the remarkable work you do, in order to help build our beautiful country. Women of Côte d’Ivoire, because you are active, dynamic and determined people, you play a vital role in the development of our country. Your duties put you at the centre of economic, social and political strategies to meet the challenges of development, for our country to be ranked among the healthiest economies in the world "she said. Mrs. Dominique Ouattara took the opportunity of this ceremony to raise a corner of veil on the major events that will mark the year 2018. Indeed, she mentioned the inauguration in March of the Mother-Child Hospital of Bingerville to the 20th anniversary of the Children of Africa Foundation. According to Dominique Ouattara, this new health facility will provide better care for populations, especially women and children.

The other major event for 2018 is the inauguration in April of the Soubré children’ shelter for child victims of child trafficking and child labour. Before she  mentionned the major events that will be carried out in 2018, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara took a retrospective look at the past year. She expressed her satisfaction with the progress made for the well-being of the people. "(...) Despite difficulties encountered in 2017, we have moved forward and have succeeded in implementing many projects that Côte d'Ivoire should be proud of," she said. Thus, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara indicated the efforts made in the framework of women's empowerment with the Support Fund for Women of Côte d'Ivoire (FAFCI) which has so far helped 125,000 women. This fund has so far reached a capital of 10 billion CFA francs. The ceremony ended with a sumptuous cocktail and the giving of presents.
