First Lady Dominique Ouattara gave, on Saturday, August 3rd, 2013 at Marcory-SICOGI the first sweep of the urban sanitation campaign called "let’s clean every day in front of our houses." The launching ceremony of the campaign took place in Marcory-SICOGI, and several mayors, members of government, the wives of Ministers and women leaders attended the ceremony. L ed by the Ministry of Environment, Urban Waste Management and Sustainable Development, this campaign will be run over 3 months in all municipalities of the city of Abidjan. It aims to encourage housewives to make a change in behavior by maintaining and cleaning their immediate environment. To do so, the First Lady went ahead at the launch of the operation, to swear in the wives of Ministers and women leaders as "Safety Ambassadors ". The latter will go into the 10 municipalities of Abidjan to raise household awareness on the need to keep their immediate environment clean. Speaking, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara urged her sisters to make cleanliness a principle of life. The First Lady shared her belief to see the city of Abidjan regain its former glory. "I have faith that our dear city of Abidjan will soon regain its former glory to become the pearl of the lagoons," she desired. The launch of this safety campaign, is of paramount importance for Dominique Ouattara, especially since there is a close link between environment and health. She therefore did not hesitate to invite people to strict compliance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Environment, for a truly sustainable development. "(...) There is no need to demonstrate that many of the diseases of our children and our citizens are caused by poor hygiene, and dirty and degraded environment. However, for our children, we dream of a lifestyle conducive to their health and their physical and intellectual development. In short, a healthy living environment, pleasant and free from all kinds of pollution. To this end, it is appropriate to make safety our first line of defense against any threat to the health of our children. As we know cleanliness is health, and health is life, "she recalled. Continuing, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara stressed that it the way only by which people will protect their children from diseases such as cholera, typhoid, malaria and other diseases related to poor hygiene. In addition, as usual, the First Lady has not made the trip to Marcory, empty-handed. So she made a cash donation to the populations present. Dr. Remi Allah Kouadio, Minister of Environment, health urban hygiene and sustainable development, meanwhile, reiterated the importance of urban safety for the government. Thus, he revealed that the government is making enormous resources in financial, material and human resources to offer a healthy living environment to the Ivorians. "The safety in urban areas is an important government objective. To achieve this, the government is working, not only in terms of financial resources with about 20 billion CFA francs per year, but also in terms of equipment and logistics, as evidenced by the donation of $ 5 billion CFA francs of safety equipment and logistics to 160 municipalities by His Excellency the President of the Republic and soon a donation of 105 million CFA francs equipment will be made to 16 communes in the country, "he revealed. In addition, Dr. Remi Allah Kouadio revealed that an international tender will be launched in the coming days in order to give garbage collection in Abidjan to an international dimension operator. But for the Environment Minister, all these efforts will be in vain if there is no change in the behavior of the Ivorian people. After recalling previous campaigns organized among others by his department, the monthly "Clean up your home" campaign, the special campaign Paquinou" in bus stations and the " zero waste Election," Dr. Remi Allah revealed that his time, through the launch of " Let us clean every day in front of our houses”, the objective is to ensure that every household, after cleaning the inside of its house, also cleans the outside, namely the influence of the fence on the street. "So naturally, we asked the first woman of Côte d'Ivoire, Her Excellency Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, the First Lady of Côte d'Ivoire, to accompany us and involve as consequence her sisters of Côte d'Ivoire in this activity loyal, "he argued. Francis Albert Amichia, President of the Union of Towns and Municipalities of Côte d'Ivoire (UVICOCI) has, meanwhile, recalled that insalubrity assumed alarming proportions in the cities and towns of the country. Also, he said it is important to provide an adequate solution to this problem.
