Her Vision, Her Mission
The vision of Dominique Ouattara
Mrs. Dominique Ouattara made her life priesthood for the poor. Since 1980, she decided to rescue the weak and particularly to address the cause of children in need. In this regard, on 16 June 2011, during the celebration of the Day of the African Child, Dominique Ouattara eloquently showed her vision for the Children of Africa:
"We who are on the ground of concrete actions since two decades know that an anxious and weakened child can be later a tormented and hostile adult to society. In order to avert such a fate, we created Children Of Africa Foundation which has taken many initiatives in favor of children on the continent. "
For Dominique Ouattara, it should be given African countries the chance to have a healthy and well educated youth. Moreover, she does not skimp on the means to give all children the chance for success, but also to the family unit, the basic element of society. At each of the events marking the country, she has always stands alongside the populations, drying their tears and providing support and assistance. The First Lady is part of that caliber of people who mark their passage on Man’s Earth with an indelible mark. Because she endorsed the thought of Raoul Folleraux: "Nobody has the right to be happy alone."
The Mission of Dominique Ouattara
The First Lady officially works in the humanitarian field since 1998 through Children Of Africa Foundation whose mission is to provide a better future for children in Africa. The Foundation operates in about ten countries in Africa, but more particularly in Côte d'Ivoire. It works on equity and operates in four sectors revolving around women and children:
- Health Sector;
- Education Sector;
- The Subsidized Centers;
- And Social Sector.
In Health Sector:
Children Of Africa Foundation works for the rehabilitation and building of health establishments and facilities. It provides medicines and equipment for hospitals and organizes, every year, free of charge immunization as well as ophthalmologic caravans for people living in underprivileged neighborhoods.
In Education Sector:
At the start of the new school year, Mrs. Dominique OUATTARA expresses her solidarity with struggling parents of pupil in financial need, donating thousands of school kits to children, ensuring them access to knowledge, guarantee for a brighter future. In addition, Children Of Africa Foundation has built a secondary school for girls. It builds multimedia rooms and provides educational facilities to schools.
The Foundation has two mobile libraries called “Bibliobus”, provided for underprivileged children, in order to help them have access to reading.
The Foundation subsidizes ten reception and accommodation centers for children in difficult situation and has its own center called LA CASE DES ENFANTS (THE HUT OF CHILDREN), where abandoned children are treated, educated and daily cared.
In Social Sector:
Dominique OUATTARA support income-generating activities for women from several regions of the country. In fact, women are in the front line of development in their families and communities. Promoting women empowerment is to ensure the well-being of their children.
Therefore, the Foundation has initiated The Dominique OUATTARA Fund, of which 8000 women have been able to benefit from, and of which Women’s NGOs also received agricultural equipment.
AS FIRST LADY, MRS. DOMINIQUE OUATTARA HAS DECIDED TO COMMIT HERSELF IN FAVOUR OF FOUR SUBJECTS CLOSE TO HER HEART, AS FOLLOWS:
- Fight against child labor;
- Fight against mother-to-child transmission of HIV;
- The construction of a Mother and Child Hospital;
- And the establishment of a special microcredit fund for women;
Fight against child exploitation:
Many children are unfortunately exploited in the plantations of cocoa, of which Côte d’Ivoire is the world’s largest producer.
That is why The First Lady has committed herself to combat this phenomenon tirelessly.
She chairs the Nation Oversight Committe of Fight Against Child Traffiking, Explotation and Labour, whose task is to monitor and evaluate Gouvernment actions in combating child trafficking and exploitation.
Fight against mother-to-child transmission of HIV:
Mrs. Dominique OUATTARA has decided to support all the initiatives and programs of fight against programs against HIV infection in mothers and their children. Particularly committed to the cause of children, she wants to take an active part in the fight.Indeed, in 2010 UNAIDS estimated 480 000, the number of people living with HIV/AIDS in Côte d’Ivoire, including 50 000 children. As for children, the rate of Mother-to-child transmission of HIV is 15 to 30% in the absence of treatment.
The construction of a mother and child hospital in Bingerville, in the district of Abidjan
Because of Women and children’s difficulties in accessing health care in Côte d’Ivoire, she nourishes the construction of a hospital entirely dedicated to the mother and the child.
In addition, a charity gala dinner helped the Foundation Children Of Africa to raise a large part of the funds for the creation of this hospital. The mother-child hospital of Bingerville, will be built on a plot of three hectares, and will help to reduce to reduce maternal, neonatal and child mortality.
It will also consider the issue of HIV on the mother and the child.
The First Lady of Côte d'Ivoire believes in women’s economic potential. That is why, she began establishing a special microcredit fund for women.
The Support Fund for Women will be awarded to unemployed women willing to pursue a lucrative business.
In addition, the loan rate will be reduced compared to other microcredit organizations.
The Fund will:
• Strengthen the capacity of women, improve women's income and facilitate their financial independence;
• And contribute to raising the living standards of women and their families.
It will fund the first year 6,000 women and 8,000 the second year.
"Faced with the needs of the population which are still important, I sometimes say that our actions are a drop in the ocean.But then, when I see the smile on children's faces, I realize that every little gesture of love can make a miracle and change the life of a child in difficult situation. So, for them, I want to continue and go on again to try to make miracles.”
