Fight against maternal mortality

First Lady Dominique Ouattara has sponsored the launch of  the CARMMA at the Hotel Ivoire

452 women die every day in Africa from complications of pregnancy, childbirth, and foolowing miscarriages. Every day, more than 16 women die in Côte d'Ivoire from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. This equates every months to 4 Boeing 737 filled with pregnant women which crashed in Côte d'Ivoire. This alarming assessment of the situation of maternal health has been done, on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the Hotel Ivoire, at the launch of the Campaign for Accelerated Reduction of Maternal Mortality in Africa (CARMMA). The theme of the campaign: "Investing in maternal health so that no woman dies giving life in an emerging Côte d'Ivoire from  2020 onward".

The First Lady, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, the patron of the ceremony. had very much like to provide her support to this initiative. She has, moreover, used this platform to launch an appeal to all those involved in the field of improving the health of mothers to raise awareness of the phenomenon’s seriousness. "We emphasize in forceful and committed terms that women are life. She has this mission entrusted by God to perpetuate the human race and it is therefore abnormal she dies in fulfilling this mission. No, women should not die giving life. All together, each at our level, we must mobilize to end maternal mortality ", recommended Mrs. Dominique Ouattara. Concerned with the welfare  of the mother-child, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara has stressed the importance of the phenomenon for the sustainable development of society. For the First Lady, the issue of maternal mortality goes beyond the simple social entity the mother constitues. According to Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, this issue commits and involves the fate of human societies. "(…) For us, maternal health is crucial to both children and families’s well-being as well as nations’. It is a question of collective survival, "she argued. Continuing her analysis, the Lady of the Ivorian charity argued that in the specific case of Côte d'Ivoire, the various reports and publications on maternal health testify to the rise in the level of maternal mortality. The high rate of maternal mortality is, according to Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, due to gender inequality, poverty and poor access of women to health services; the high fertility rate; early marriages, unwanted pregnancies and violence in all its forms against women.
