First Lady Dominique Ouattara in Marcory at the launch of the urban safety campaign:

First Lady Dominique Ouattara gave, on Saturday, August 3rd, 2013 at Marcory-SICOGI the first sweep of the urban sanitation campaign called "let’s clean every day in front of our houses." The launching ceremony of the campaign took place in Marcory-SICOGI, and several mayors, members of government, the wives of Ministers and women leaders attended the ceremony. L
ed by the Ministry of Environment, Urban Waste Management and Sustainable Development, this campaign will be run over 3 months in all municipalities of the city of Abidjan. It aims to encourage housewives to make a change in behavior by maintaining and cleaning their immediate environment. To do so, the First Lady went ahead at the launch of the operation, to swear in the wives of Ministers and women leaders as "Safety Ambassadors ". The latter will go into the 10 municipalities of Abidjan to raise household awareness on the need to keep their immediate environment clean.
Speaking, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara urged her sisters to make cleanliness a principle of life. The First Lady shared her belief to see the city of Abidjan regain its former glory. "I have faith that our dear city of Abidjan will soon regain its former glory to become the pearl of the lagoons," she desired. The launch of this safety campaign, is of paramount importance for Dominique Ouattara, especially since there is a close link between environment and health. She therefore did not hesitate to invite people to strict compliance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Environment, for a truly sustainable development. "(…) There is no need to demonstrate that many of the diseases of our children and our citizens are caused by poor hygiene, and dirty and degraded environment. However, for our children, we dream of a lifestyle conducive to their health and their physical and intellectual development. In short, a healthy living environment, pleasant and free from all kinds of pollution. To this end, it is appropriate to make safety our first line of defense against any threat to the health of our children. As we know cleanliness is health,  and health is life, "she recalled. Continuing, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara stressed that it the way only by which people will protect their children from diseases such as cholera, typhoid, malaria and other diseases related to poor hygiene.
