National Navy

The First Lady Dominique Ouattara lanched, on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014, at the Annex of the Naval Base in Plateau, the patrol "The Emergence" and decorated its crew. Godmother of the ship, the First Lady Dominique Ouattara the tradition of the Marine who wants to launch a boat is done by a woman. The wife of the Head of State has, therefore, christened by breaking a bottle of champagne on the hull of the ship. It is a symbolic act consisting in deliberately spreading champagne on a boat not only to ward off bad luck, but to also launch it. 

This brand new RPB type ship (Rapid Patrol Ship), 33 meters long and 06.50 meters wide arrived on the platform of the Annex Base of the National Navy in Plateau, from Lorient in France, on May 23rd 2014. Since 1982, the Ivorian Navy had no patrol. With the acquisition of this new vessel, the first of three (03) vessels ordered, the Ivorian State reinforces the Navy in its mission of protecting and monitoring territorial waters. Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, godmother  of the patrol vessel "Emergence", did not failed to notice that situation, in her speech. "It was reported to me that until recently, the Navy was poorly equipped to deal with all forms of threats that existed in the waters under national jurisdiction and on the high seas," First Lady, sponsor of the patrol, noted. Aware of this handicap, President Alassane Ouattara has decided to strengthen the fleet of the Ivorian Navy by equipping it with new vessels in line with his commitment to make Côte d'Ivoire an emerging country by 2020. "The President of the Republic, having taken the full measure of threats and dangers facing our country wished to retool the National Navy," she revealed, adding: "Also, like all Ivorians, I am delighted by the acquisition of our country of the patrol vessel "Emergence". Its presence reassures us because it increases the ability of our navy and thus makes it more efficient for the peacekeeping."
