The First Lady, Mrs Dominique Ouattara, received Mrs Ruth Gbagbi, athlete and multiple world and African Taekwondo champion, on Tuesday February 18, 2025, in Cocody.

During the meeting, Mrs. Gbagbi expressed her deep gratitude to the President of the Republic and his wife for their constant support and wise advice, which have contributed to the development of her sporting career. She stressed the importance of this support to her performances and her ability to represent Côte d’Ivoire with dignity on the international stage.

The First Lady welcomed this initiative and warmly congratulated the champion on her exceptional career. She also underlined Ruth Gbagbi’s remarkable contribution to the development of Taekwondo in Côte d’Ivoire, inspiring many young athletes to pursue excellence.

“I’d like to thank her from the bottom of my heart for the support she and her husband, the President of the Republic, have given us over the years. This support has enabled us to win medals and represent Côte d’Ivoire with dignity on the international stage. Thanks to this support, we are also training in good conditions to please the nation and be emblematic figures for young people”, revealed Mrs Ruth Gbagbi after her audience with the First Lady.  Mrs Gbagbi also unveiled the next step in her career. “I also took advantage of this opportunity to talk to her about the next steps in my career. I plan to continue until the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. I still need the guidance and support of the Presidential couple,” said Ruth Gbagbo.

Ruth Gbagbi is a double World Champion in 2017 and 2021. She is also a double Olympic winner at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. She is a seven (7) time African Taekwondo champion.
