Maternal and child health: Rotary Club donates 100 million CFA francs to Bingerville Mother and Child Hospital

Solidarity in support of mothers and children was once again honored at the Dominique Ouattara Mother and Child Hospital (HME) in Bingerville on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, during a donation ceremony held by the Rotary Club of Abidjan.

The donation ceremony took place at the Home of Life of the HME in Bingerville in the presence of the First Lady, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, President of the Children Of Africa Foundation; Mr. Abou Bakar Ouattara, Governor of District 9101 of Rotary International; and many other dignitaries.

Inaugurated in 2018, the Dominique Ouattara Mother and Child Hospital in Bingerville is now established as a leading hospital center, but also as a true beacon of hope for many families. Every day, doctors and healthcare staff work with professionalism and compassion to ensure optimal care for mothers and children.

The donation from the Rotary Club, worth a total of 100 million CFA francs, consists of medicines, food, non-food items, and financial support estimated at nearly 50 million CFA francs. These contributions will help improve the treatment of serious diseases, particularly pediatric cancer, provide valuable support to vulnerable families, and contribute to the smooth running of the hospital.

In her speech, First Lady Dominique Ouattara praised Rotary International’s ongoing commitment to social and humanitarian action, particularly in the health sector. According to the First Lady, this gesture goes far beyond the material aspect. It is a deeply human act that directly affects the stability of families facing moments of great fragility. She emphasized that this commitment perfectly illustrates the values of solidarity, generosity, social responsibility, and service, which are dear to Rotary International and shared by the Children of Africa Foundation. “By making this donation, you are performing a deeply humane act to support a cause that is close to our hearts: the well-being of mothers and children.

This act, which goes far beyond mere numbers, directly affects the stability of families going through times of great vulnerability, and we thank you for it,” said Mrs. Dominique Ouattara. She continued: “Your commitment today perfectly illustrates the values that drive you, namely solidarity, generosity, a sense of service, and social responsibility. These values also guide the work of the Children of Africa Foundation, which serves the most vulnerable women and children.”

In addition, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara welcomed the strengthening of the partnership between medical institutions, humanitarian organizations, and civil society actors, believing that it is through collective and united action that lasting change can be achieved for the benefit of the population.  On behalf of the mothers, children, and all the beneficiary families, the First Lady expressed her deep gratitude to the Rotary Club and expressed her hope that this exemplary collaboration would continue over the long term, in order to continue saving lives and restoring hope.

Finally, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara paid tribute to Mr. Hachim Diop, Director General of the Bingerville Mother and Child Hospital, as well as to all the medical, nursing, and administrative staff for their remarkable work and daily commitment to serving patients.

Mr. Abou-Bakar Ouattara, Governor of District 9101 of Rotary International, praised Mrs. Dominique Ouattara’s commitment to helping disadvantaged populations. He also congratulated her on her leadership and the inspiring example she sets for Rotary. Mr. Abou-Bakar Ouattara also recalled that he had placed his mandate under the patronage of Mrs. Dominique Ouattara. He therefore reassured the First Lady of the Rotary Club that he would support her actions on behalf of vulnerable people. Returning to the missions of the service club, he revealed that Rotary is an organization of volunteer leaders who work for the well-being of communities. As such, he said, the issue of maternal health is one of Rotary’s priorities.

Indeed, for the latter, “protecting the mother means protecting the child.” He also emphasized the similarities between the Children Of Africa Foundation and Rotary. Mr. Abou-Bakar Ouattara concluded his speech

Mr. Hachim Diop, Director General of the HME, revealed in his speech that the HME’s Maison de Vie in Bingerville has already supported nearly 300 families. He paid a glowing tribute to the First Lady, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, for her commitment to mother and child.

It should be noted that well before the start of the ceremony, the First Lady, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, Mr. Abou Bakar Ouattara, and all the members of their delegations visited the HME Maison de Vie in Bingerville and gave gifts to the sick children.
