First Lady Dominique Ouattara granted on Monday, May 19th, 2014 an audience, in his cabinet in Cocody, to a delegation from the Red Cross of Côte d'Ivoire. The delegation was led by Mrs. Monique Coulibaly, President of the Red Cross Society of Côte d'Ivoire. After the audience with the First Lady, Mrs. Monique Coulibaly, President of the Red Cross of Côte d'Ivoire kindly gave us the meaning of this visit. "The First Lady has always been alongside the Red Cross and today we came to officially ask her as required by our status, to take up her role as Honorary President of the Red Cross Society of Côte d'Ivoire, what she accepted. She is ready to help us; besides, she has already begun without waiting since she knows the provisions of Article 2, which confers on her the role of Honorary President of the Red Cross Society. We want to thank her for this attention", Mrs. Monique Coulibaly said. Mrs. Monique Coulibaly revealed that the Red Cross is an auxiliary to public authorities in their humanitarian tasks. In the specific case of Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs. Monique Coulibaly said that the First Lady is already working in humanitarian even before her husband be brought to power as head of the country. "Being the mother of the country, the First Lady has an eye on the humanitarian for a better life of the population. At our level, it is a role that is already innate. Population and especially our volunteers who are almost 12 000 in Côte d'Ivoire must know that the First Lady has agreed to be our Honorary President. This is a great day for us", underlined Mrs. Coulibaly.

The Red Cross Society of Côte d'Ivoire is a member of the International Movement of the Red Cross Society and Red Crescent Society since 1963 and is recognized of public utility by decree n ° 63-169 of April 18, 1963. The Red Cross mission is to prevent and alleviate the suffering of vulnerable people without discrimination on the grounds of race, nationality, class, gender, religion or political opinion.
