Combating violence, trafficking, exploitation and child labour
The Conference of the First Ladies of West Africa and Sahel on Child Labour ended this Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at the Palais des Congrès of Sofitel Hotel Ivoire of Cocody. For 48 hours, the First Ladies of the sub-region and the Sahel, supported by the various experts of their respective countries, reviewed the issue of violence, trafficking, exploitation and child labour. After sharing their experiences and the difficulties to address the issue, they therefore decided to work together to eradicate all forms of violence and practices that could undermine the rights of the child. In that context they have signed a joint declaration. Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, First Lady of Côte d'Ivoire and President of the National Oversight Committee for Fight against Trafficking, Exploitation and Child Labour (CNS) believes it is possible to eliminate this scourge with the help of all her fellow First Ladies.
"The joint declaration we have signed, gives me hope that we are on the right track to eliminate this scourge from West African regions. (…) Once again, we can see that the First Ladies of West Africa and the Sahel are committed to defend the rights of the child " she said. Mrs. Dominique Ouattara also congratulated her sisters collaboration for the eradication of this phenomenon. "This sign of solidarity shows the good collaboration between our countries, in order to completely eliminate child labour from our countries by 2025," she explained.
