Dominique Ouattara makes donations to the community living nearby Abidjan.

The Children Of Africa Foundation has again provided its support to people economically affected by the spread of the coronavirus.  Thus, after the donations made to 5,000 families in the 13 areas of Abidjan and to journalists, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, President of Children Of Africa has decided to provide assistance to 6,000 families living insurrounded cities of Abidjan, namely Dabou, Jacqueville, Azaguié, Grand-Bassam, Bonoua and Assinie.

The donation ceremony took place on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at the main office of the Children of Africa Foundation.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of Mrs. Mariatou Koné, Minister of Solidarity, Social Cohesion and the Fight against Poverty, local officials and authorities.

These donations are composed of food and health products. They include 6,000 bags of rice, 6,000 sachets of pasta, 25,000 tins of sardines, 12,000 bottles of oil, 20,000 tins of tomato paste, 12 000 bottles of handwashing gel, 6,000 hand washing devices, 20,000 protective masks, 12,000 liquid soaps, 40,000 pieces of soap and 12,000 bottles of bleach. The total value of the items is approximately 210 million F CFA.

Mrs Dominique Ouattara, President of the Children Of Africa Foundation has appealed for solidarity and sharing. According to her, these values will, on the one hand, break the social distancing required by measures to break the chain of transmission of the pandemic and, on the other hand, they will help the underpriviledged.  ” solidarity and sharing are cardinal values that will enable us to remain close despite the measures of social distancing that we observe,” she said. “I encourage you to make donations, however minor they may be, because each donation can save lives,” said Ms. Dominique Ouattara.  Long before, Ms. Dominique Ouattara called on the population to respect the barrier measures to halt the spread of the disease. For her, only discipline and civic-mindedness will enable people to protect themselves against the spread of the new coronavirus.  “As we have seen, Covid-19 affects everyone, irrespective of their of political affiliation, religion or social status. It is a serious disease that threatens all of us, so we need to be disciplined and civic-minded to deal with it,” she said.

For Mrs. Mariatou Koné, Minister of Solidarity, Social Cohesion and the Fight against poverty, solidarity is an important value to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.  “Solidarity is the core value to face the rapid spread of the pandemic that spares no one ” she said.  Ms. Mariatou Koné also thanked Ms. Dominique Ouattara for her constant concern for the poor.  “(…) You embody national solidarity through your contributions in various fields. You are a Great Woman with a big loving heart, you are always there when it is necessary to assist children in vulnerable situations,” she ended. For Ms. Mariatou Koné, these donations from Children Of Africa will strengthen the efforts and the chain of solidarity in the fight against Covid-19.

Mr. Ekissi Alain, Member of Parliament for Azaguié, spokesperson for elected officials, revealed that the economy and the lives of people are affected by the pandemic. For the latter, people are now experiencing real difficulties in meeting their needs. That is why, on behalf of the populations of these six (06) localities, he thanked the President of Children Of Africa for her generosity towards the populations.

Mrs. Adou Gnagne Patricia, spokesperson for the beneficiaries also  thanked Mrs. Dominique Ouattara for her support.

It should be noted that as of 15 April 2020, Côte d’Ivoire has recorded 650 infected patients, 6 deaths and 146 recovered.
