Fight against the worst forms of child labor

The CNS (National Oversight Committee for actions against Exploitation, Trafficking and Child Labour) has organized, a workshop to Inform, and improve the knowledge of national players in the fight against the worst forms of child labor, on the Child Labor Monitoring System in Côte d’Ivoire (SOSTECI). This workshop for capacity building of players on the SOSTECI took place on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in Cocody-Riviera, in the District of Abidjan. On this occasion, 57 seminarians from several ministries, international NGOs and cocoa producing firms have been trained to master this instrument in the fight against the worst forms of child labor (WFCL).

During the opening ceremony, Mrs. Patricia Yao Sylvie, Executive Secretary of the CNS, also Chief of Staff of the Cabinet of the First Lady gave the reasons underlying the organization of this seminar. For her, the SOSTECI appears as the archetypal means that will enable players to bring a sustainable response to child labor phenomenon. "Indeed, faced with the nagging question of child labor, the Child Labor Monitoring System in Côte d’Ivoire (SOSTECI), remains a powerful tool for States and companies involved in this phenomenon, to set up transparent and effective procedures to control and eliminate child labor in their different production lines and supply.

For our country, Côte d'Ivoire, which for more than ten years is indexed on the international scene as a user's country of child labor in cocoa production , the SOSTECI is the national mechanism response that allows through a participatory and integrated approach to provide appropriate and sustainable to the problem of child labor " holistic reply, she said. Also, in order to remedy this, she called actors to take ownership of this observation system. "(…) We need to accelerate the process for passage nationally. And this goal , we can achieve without an intelligent combination of our resources and our efforts , "stated Ms. Patricia Yao Sylvie .
