Ivorian-American cooperation: Melania Trump invites Dominique Ouattara to a summit in Washington

The First Lady, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, will take part in an international summit in Washington on March 24 and 25, organized by the First Lady of the United States, Mrs. Melania Trump.

The announcement was made during an audience granted on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in Cocody to Mr. Junaid Munir, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire, accompanied by Ms. Jenny Bah, First Secretary of the Political and Economic Section.

According to the American diplomat, this invitation reflects the strength and dynamism of relations between Abidjan and Washington. “Relations between the two countries are closer than ever thanks to her efforts. We look forward to the arrival of Her Excellency the First Lady in Washington in March. She will attend the summit organized by our First Lady, Mrs. Melania Trump. This is another opportunity to showcase the dynamism of relations between the two countries,” said Mr. Junaid Munir.

Scheduled to take place over two days in the US capital, the summit will focus primarily on children’s rights. Discussions will center on protecting minors from contemporary challenges, including their exposure to social media, as well as several topics related to safeguarding and promoting their rights. Women’s rights are also expected to feature prominently in the discussions, in the context of the upcoming celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8.

Beyond this high-level invitation, the discussions also highlighted the excellent diplomatic relations between Côte d’Ivoire and the United States, as well as the prospects for strengthening  bilateral partnership. The Chargé d’Affaires praised Mrs. Dominique Ouattara’s ongoing commitment to children and women in Côte d’Ivoire and Africa, highlighting the significant impact of her social and humanitarian actions.

At the end of the meeting, the First Lady expressed her gratitude to her hosts for the visit and reaffirmed her commitment to continuing her efforts to strengthen Ivorian-American relations for the benefit of the people,  women and children in particular.
