Ramadan 2023: Mrs. Dominique Ouattara donates food supplies worth 130 million CFA francs to Muslim community

Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, President of the Children Of Africa Foundation, donates 130 million F CFA to the Muslim community for the month of Ramadan, on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

The donation ceremony  took place at the headquarters of the Children Of Africa Foundation. It witnessed the presence of General Diomandé Vagondo, Minister of Interior and Security, Mrs. Myss Belmonde Dogo, Minister of Solidarity and Poverty Alleviation, as well as several other personalities including Muslim religious leaders, heads of Muslim associations and NGOs.

These donations comprising 3,000 bags of rice, 1,500 boxes of sugar, 1,500 bags of pasta, 750 boxes of tomatoes, 1,250 boxes of oil cans and 300 boxes of milk are offered to religious leaders, mosques in the district of Abidjan and in the interior of the country and to about sixty NGOs and Muslim Associations.  As in previous years, the wife of the Head of State has decided to show her solidarity and support to the Muslim community during this important period of Ramadan. The mont of Ramadan is important for Muslims , because it is the month of fasting and the night of Ordainment. Also, in this month, generosity and sharing towards the poorest is essential. It is precisely in this context that Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, President of the Children Of Africa Foundation, has decided to show solidarity and charity towards the whole Ivorian Muslim community. “Ramadan is for the Muslim community, a time for fasting and prayer. This month is also considered as the month of charity. During this important, the expression of generosity and sharing, especially towards the poorest, is essential. That is why, every year, to donate to the Muslim community in Côte d’Ivoire, to show my support and solidarity”, explained Mrs. Dominique Ouattara.

These food and non-food items will enable Muslim families to spend an excellent month of Ramadan. The First Lady took this opportunity to call on both christians and muslims  to promote peace and dialogue between religions. “This year, Ramadan is also an opportunity to foster dialogue between the Catholic and Muslim religious communities, in a spirit of cohesion and peace. In addition, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara urged members of the Muslim community to pray for cohesion and peace in the country.

General Diomandé Vagondo, Minister of Interior and Security, stressed the importance of charity during the holy month of Ramadan. Also, for him, offering a meal to a needy person during this month is above all a recommendation of the Prophet of Islam. He also insisted on the special character of this month of Ramadan which coincides with the Christian Lent. He ended by offering blessings to the Presidential couple.

Imam Koné Daoud, Executive Secretary of COSIM, representing Sheikhoul Aïma Ousmane Diakité, President of COSIM and spokesperson for the beneficiaries, thanked the First Lady for her generosity on the occasion of Ramadan.
